Quotes of the week

Ever read quotes by someone in an article and think…”what? really?” You sometimes wonder how the quotes got passed by the editor. But when they are direct quotes by celebrities it makes it all the more fun. It’s shameful, I know, to laugh at the expense of others, but, whatever, I enjoy it nonetheless.
Here are my two favorite quotes I came accross this week and am still enjoying them in my head.
First one comes courtesy of Justin Bieber himself. I’m sure many of us Canadians have all heard the quote since he’s Canadian and is in charge of speaking for all of us.
“I’m actually part Indian. I think Inuit or something? I’m enough percent that in Canada I can get free gas.” – Justin Bieber
The reason have to love this is because I can’t help but wonder if there could there be any more politically incorrect remarks and stereotypical thinking in one statement? Are we even allowed to say Indian anymore? And, I don’t actually know if free gas is an option, but it sure plays into the stereotypes and prejudices faced by many native Americans today. I’m all for releasing the hold of political correctness we are bound under these days. I find it quite sniffling and actually gives power to words that may or may not otherwise hold any merit. Unfortunately, not everyone agrees so I knew the moment I read this quote it was going to be exciting.
My second favorite quote of this week was found in a newspaper article in regards to a national organized crime meeting taking place which brought in large numbers of members to one city. Members were subjected to extra scrutiny and police presence in the area and felt they were being treated unfairly. Their lawyer issued this statement.
“It’s unfair to describe all members of XXXX as criminals just because some members have been convicted of crimes.”
As if the fact that the whole organization has a lawyer and had them on speed dial for the weekend should any problems arise, doesn’t say enough, one tends to assume when you join an organized crime ring or street gang, suspicion will follow you. If it weren’t the case, then we would just look at individuals and never mention the fact that they are part of anything organized.
Whether or not you agree or disagree with me, I think you’ll agree these quotes are certainly mentionable.
