This weekend my daughter, 2 of her friends, their moms and myself all attended our first away dance competition. The girls danced early morning on Sunday and since it was a 3.5 hour drive, we decided to go the day before and stay at a hotel. We left early in the morning on Saturday and grabbed a quick lunch before we were pampered with pedicures. This was my daughters first pedicure and she was so excited for it, she asked me everyday this week how many more sleeps it was. Probably more than once a day she asked! She sat so nicely while they soaked her feet, shaped her nails and painted a color that she had picked out all on her own. She chose a wonderful shade of blue, not surprising seeing she has never been a fan of anything pink. I, on the other hand, chose a bright summer pink shade because i love all things pink!

We shopped for the afternoon before heading out. We got to the hotel in time for the girls to be able to get an hour of swimming in before it was time to get ready for bed. We had an early morning on Sunday, getting up at 7am and doing hair and makeup and finishing the drive to the competition. Once we got the girls to sleep, the moms and I enjoyed some great visiting and a few glasses of wine in the hallway.

My daughter has been dancing for the last 2 years and dances ballet and hip hop. This Sunday morning they were dancing their ballet number.

They all performed so well in front of a rather large audience. They received a mark of 85% and were awarded gold for their dance. They were given a ribbon to attach to the lanyard they were given at registration. This was the best part of the whole weekend for my daughter. After years of watching her brother win medals and trophies at hockey, she has started to receive some for herself. She won her first medal for a piano performance and got a badge for completing her gymnastics level. She told me today at supper she was going to pay more attention and try harder at practice and do whatever the teachers tell her from now on. Everyone has a price and this is definitely hers!!!

We had a such a great weekend together and I look forward to many more mother daughter events to come in my life.

For right now, we have another dance competition this weekend where she will dance both dances and then the year end recital next weekend. Get your cameras ready.
